A gentle but proud temperament is the hall mark of the Lipizzaner. The horse is willing, intelligent, and possesses stamina as well as strength, agility, and natural balance. The Lipizzaner has always been popular, along with its relatives, the Andalusians and Lusitanos, in circuses around the world. The breed makes an excellent carriage horse and is used as such in Hungary. It is also sometimes used in general draft work. The Lipizzaner is a late maturing breed and serious work requiring strength and mature physique cannot be asked of the horse until it is usually seven or eight years of age. Lipizzaner horses stand about 16 hands high.
